Bathroom Floor Plan

It is often said that bathrooms are the real reflection of the personality of a person. Generally people think that the larger the bathroom, the better it is. It is not always so. A good bathroom floor plan should be made according to the needs and convenience of the potential users.  To begin with, it is always better to write down the design idea for the bathroom floor plan. The choice should be made according to the personality of the people who would be using it. Should it be a modern, black and white design with sleek mirrors and matching accents like what you saw in that plush hotel, or should it have a more orthodox and country look?

Bathroom floor plans, unlike other floor plans are more complex, as one needs to include space and position of the fixtures, hardware and sanitary accessories. A bathroom floor plan also has to take into consideration the flow of water and sewage and thus the inflow and outflow channels must be clearly highlighted in the plan. The plan should be made as simple as possible because a complex bathroom floor plan may lead to a problem at a future date, especially if one wishes to remodel or bring about some change in it. One must remember that in any bathroom renovation, plumbing -- including fixtures -- is the most expensive part. Relocating any fixture, whether it's a sink, toilet or tub, means calling in a plumber and potentially disrupting other areas of the house, including the lower level.

It is always a better idea to build a bathroom floor plan on the basis of the people occupying them. The floor plan of the master bathroom should always be made separately than the attached bathrooms. The bathroom floor plan should also be in sync with the floor plans of the room.

The biggest difficulty that one faces in a bathroom floor plan is figuring out the size of that ideal bathroom. It is a common happening that though the bathroom is one of the smallest areas in the house, yet with accessories it takes maximum amount of time in remodeling. Fixtures play an important role in the entire bathroom floor plan.

While making a bathroom floor plan one should also think about the layout of the bathroom and the areas that might need fixing. Things like multiple usage (can it be used by more than one person), enough counter space, position and size of towel racks, etc play an important role in the entire thought process of the bathroom floor plan. Lighting is one more critical component often ignored at the planning stage of a bathroom floor plan. Position, power and type of lighting should be finalized in the initial stages itself to avoid any extra cost at a later date.
