Choosing Wrought Iron Gates
By Tony Dunk
The style of wrought iron gates that you finally choose will either make or break the look of your home. This is the very first thing that your guests are going to see when they come over, and at some residences the house will not even be in sight yet. This first impression is gold and if you screw it up then they are going to hate your home all around. Your gates are the crowning jewel of your house and yard so take care when picking them out because they are gong to have to do you for a lifetime.
Gates of any kind are very expensive so you need to make sure that you choose the right ones the first time. You are probably not going to be able to afford getting rid of them right away if it turns out they are no good. You need to put a good amount of tem into your wrought iron gates shopping. And remember that looks aren't everything you need to get a decent price on them too.
There are different styles for you to choose from when you are looking at gates, you can go with the more traditional and ornate gates or one with clean and simple lines. No matter if your home is an old Victorian mansion or a single country home you can still benefit from the look of wrought iron for the gates. These gates match anything and everything to perfection, that is just part of their overall charm.
Good wrought iron gates are a smart and practical choice for your yard. These gates can and have lasted for hundreds of years with ease. Once you get some good ones you will never have to shop for more again. The hardest decision for some people is between brand new wrought iron or antique wrought iron gates. This can be a tough call because both are absolutely gorgeous.
I suggest getting real wrought iron, not the steel that is just made to look like wrought. There is a difference in the strength and durability of the metals. If you want your gates to really last you generations then go with original iron. This means that you will have to look for some old gates that someone is selling or you will have to have your gates shipped to you from over seas. This can get expensive as Europe is far away so you are probably better off to get the antique gates. These are better anyways because they have so much rich history that comes along with them. And they are just more fun!
