How to Plan and Cope with Your Children's Birthday Party
By Kate Parry
Choose from energetic activities such as Bouncy Castles, Quad Biking or Go Karting to keep active kids entertained. For rainy days or indoor parties, an entertainer, such as a clown or puppeteer will amaze and amuse both young and old alike.
Educational Shows are very popular, enabling your kids to learn without realising it – they are having too much fun to notice that they are learning! Discos are an all time classic party favourite; don’t forget to ask if they need you to hire any further sound or lighting equipment.
Why not have a themed party? Everyone loves Fancy Dress! With the help of some Face Painters, costumes and some venue decorations, such as balloon arches, bunting and funky paper plates, you can transform your little ones into anything from Princesses in Castles to Pirates on board their ships! Don’t forget to set the tone with appropriately decorated invites! Why not consider getting a Birthday Cake to go with your theme?
Mmmmm, we adore party food. Especially classic party Finger Buffets such as egg sandwiches, crisps and fizzy pop along with lashings of jelly and ice-cream. With a plethora of different catering styles to choose from, there is one to suit every budget, why not take the strain off yourself and book a caterer? Or, if the sun is shining, why not make the most of eating and cooking outdoors? Barbeques and Pig Roasts are available to hire and make a good talking point for the adults in the party too. Mobile Cocktail or Juice Bars for kids have been increasingly popular over the past few years, enabling even the youngest child feel like a star ordering their specially made beverage! Does your venue supply the crockery and linen for the tables, or do you need to hire a few more chairs? Don’t forget some drinks for Mum & Dads too!
Where are you going to hold your party? Is your Living Room really big enough to contain 20 hyperactive childlike whirlwinds?! Perhaps it would be safer to hire a function room, or ask your local village or church hall. Marquees are brilliant to enable kids to run freely inside and out, just remember to also book a portable toilet! If you have friends or family travelling a distance to come and see you, do remember to suss out some local hotels or B&B’s, so that they can stay in comfort and make the most of their visiting time.
Presents….. Possibly your Childs favourite element of their birthday! Don’t forget the Party or Loot Bags for your small guests and Thank You Gifts for those who helped you to organise the day.
There are always little bits and pieces that are over looked when organising any event; insurance for one. Never be without insurance! Do check that any company you use has Public Liability Insurance and that your venue is adequately covered. Will you want professional photo’s of the day? Remember that the lowest price doesn’t always mean the highest quality… How about a DVD or Video so that in 10 years time you can suitably embarrass your offspring in front of their friends, or in 20 years time, you can sit back and enjoy the memories of your child’s youth. Stages, mobile dance floors, lighting rigs, projectors, or large plasma screen monitors are all available for hire should your celebration require them. Do check with your entertainers that they don’t bring their own, or indeed that your venue could supply similar, duplication is expensive and unnecessary!
Fancy a change? Why not take a small group out for the day? Do make sure that you are accompanied by a fellow ‘grown up’ for assistance (and support!). Theme Parks and Activity Centres targeted towards children can be a delightful way to spend the day, or for the more adventurous parent, you could choose Paint-balling, Laser Quest or Go Karting.
