Swimming Pool Maintenance
It's important you keep your pool clean for several reasons:
- Untreated water can create an environment that is unsuitable for swimming.
- Water with chemical imbalance can damage the pool.
- Badly balanced water can irritate skin and eyes.
Disinfect
To ensure your swimming pool is clean and safe, you will need to use a disinfecting solution. The most popular choice is chlorine. When chlorine is added to the water, the chlorine and water combination causes the water to form various chemicals such as hypocholorus acid. This acid kills bacteria by attacking the lipids in the cell walls and killing the enzymes and structures inside the cell through an oxidation reaction. Chlorine usually comes in liquid, powder or tablet form. Experts recommend chlorine be added right after the filtering process via a chemical feeder; this way the chlorine can be dispatched evenly throughout the pool.
Keep the pH Level in Check
Your pool's pH is a measure of the balance of acids and alkalis in the water. Water that is too acidic can cause erosion of metal equipment and skin irritation. If the water has too much alkaline in it, the water will become too cloudy and decrease the positive effects of the chlorine. Ensuring your pool is clean and the chemical balance is right is an ongoing process, because any new element, swimmer's body, fallen debris-can shift the water's chemical make up.
General Maintenance
General maintenance of a swimming pool involves removing fallen debris, spraying clean the deck area, etc.
